Please join The Next Swell staff, friends, family, local Oahu residents and organizations as we clean one of the least known beach parks on the island in celebration of Earth Day! Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally including 1 billion people in more than 193 countries. The official theme for 2023 is ‘Invest In Our Planet.’
These beach cleanup events are a critical step in reducing man-made materials such as plastics, cigarette butts, and other trash from being introduced to our maritime environments and marine life that live in coastal waters.
On Saturday, May 18th, The Next Swell will be hosting a beach cleanup event from 9:00am to 11:00am. We’ll be meeting at the second parking lot in Sand Island Recreation Area, just look for our table setup! We will provide trash bags and have water to refill your water bottles, and be on hand to answer any questions you might have about marine conservation. Please bring your own gloves, wear comfortable shoes, and a water bottle to stay hydrated!
